Found it!

Fake it till you make it...

Fake it till you make it…

Yesterday, after posting about my lack of Christmas spirit, I decided to just fake it till I make it.  I was able to leave work a little earlier than normal so I headed to Target and decided if I didn’t have Christmas spirit then I would buy some!  The Christmas decorations at my house obviously weren’t inspiring me so I figured maybe some new stuff would.  One incredibly full shopping cart later, I found myself trimming my new tree at my house.  My heart still isn’t quite there but having the tree up is definitely a start.

Welcome!

Welcome!

Starting with my front door, I figured I needed a wreath of some sort.  For some reason, I’m not a huge fan of traditional wreaths.  Maybe it is all the moving I have done in the Marine Corps, but the less that can fall apart the better.  I liked the clean look of this wreath, so into my cart it went!

I happened upon these Christmas-y dish towels on an end aisle as I was shopping and threw them in my cart.  It isn’t much but it is just enough of a pop of holiday spirit to make me happy in the kitchen.

Ho! Ho! Ho!

Ho! Ho! Ho!

With the exception of the candle (Snowflake scent…and it is awesome!), I pulled these from a bin in my closet.  I love the snowflake table runner (a purchase last year).  And I always display the Santa hat somewhere.  My trick for getting it to sit up like that?  A roll of toilet paper.  Not sure where I learned that one but I used that trick every year.

With presents under the tree...

With presents under the tree…

Last but not least, my tree.  Target had a SAD selection of trees, but I was able to snag the last 4.5 foot prelit tree they had.  It is the perfect size for my apartment.  I purchased a big box of ornaments in two shades of pink, two shades of blue, and green.  They are matte, shiny, and glittery and I love them.  I also added about 8 silver and glittery snowflakes.  I don’t have a tree topper and that doesn’t bother me a bit.  I already had the tree skirt, so I just reused it.  And do you notice the presents under the tree?  I even did a little gift shopping while I was out!  Just two presents for my nephew, but it is a start and hopefully this pushes me along to get on the rest of the gift shopping completed.

I’m glad I did some decorating.  It is no where close to what I have done in years past but I am really pleased with this and it is just enough.

Wanted…some Christmas spirit!

In years past, I have always been full of the Christmas spirit.  I seek out the “just right” gifts to give to those I care about.  I decorate my house the weekend after Thanksgiving.  I listen to the 24 hour Christmas music radio station nonstop.  Basically, I embrace the month of December and all of the magic it can provide.  I was even able to do this when deployed over the holiday season.  This year?  Not so much.

Don’t get me wrong, I have the Christmas music station playing permanently in my car.  But my normal exuberance over Christmas just isn’t there.  I haven’t started Christmas shopping yet, mainly because I can’t muster the motivation.  I’m really busy with work this month which is sapping my energy and making it so that when I’m done for the day the last thing I want to do is shop.  (I know, I can’t believe I wrote that last sentence either…too tired to shop?  Really?!)  I’ve done no holiday baking.  And a $1 Trader Joe’s Advent calendar is the extent of my Christmas decorations at home right now.

I idea of lugging all of my Christmas decorations out right now is exhausting to me.  Especially since I feel like I haven’t been home much anyway.  When I am at Whole Foods and see the mini Christmas trees for sale, I get a desire to buy one, but then don’t because I don’t want to do the work.  When I see posts online about Christmas decorations, I feel inspired.  Then I realize I don’t want to put forth the effort to execute them.

I did a little better in my office, but only because I spend so much of my day there.  I purchased the tinsel tree for $5 at the grocery store and threw on some lights I purchased at the same time.  I also have a small poinsettia in the window and a Christmas box of Hershey Kisses on my desk.  It isn’t much, but it is at least something.

How do you get yourself in the Christmas spirit?  I need some help, and maybe a push so I don’t get called Ebenezer!
